Trust & safety

A marketplace of links only works if every link is safe to open. Ten verified programs are better than ten thousand questionable ones.

Programs are explicitly supported

GotALink doesn’t scrape referral programs. When someone adds a link for a company we don’t list yet, the company is added in review and nobody is matched with that link. Our team checks that its terms allow referrals to be shared with people you don’t know before it goes live. Where terms are unclear, a program stays in review. Companies that prohibit public sharing aren’t supported. Any program can be switched off instantly for everyone.

Every link is checked

  • It must point at the company’s own domain and match its known referral link format.
  • Shortened links, affiliate networks and affiliate tracking parameters are rejected.
  • Links that embed a redirect to another site, use unusual ports or IP addresses, or contain lookalike characters are rejected.
  • Duplicate links are caught, and each person can list one referral per company.
  • Links are re-checked against the company’s current rules every time someone opens one.

Fair matching

GotALink rotates between everyone who shared an eligible referral. It doesn’t rank by popularity, so nobody with a big audience can take every match. Referrals that are reported, or whose owners look risky, are held back until reviewed.

You stay in control

The extension never rewrites links, inserts codes, or redirects you. It shows a badge; you decide. It matches supported domains using a list stored on your device, so your browsing history isn’t sent to GotALink.

Report a referral

If a referral doesn’t work, looks like an affiliate link, or seems unsafe, use Report referral in the extension or on the website. Reports are reviewed by a person, and suspicious links are pulled from rotation immediately.
